PUTNAM AVE TOWNHOUSE
Location:
Putnam Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221
Project Stats:
Completed: Summer 2020
Area of Building: 3,000
Use: R-3 Single-Family
Type of HVAC: Boilers serving radiators for primary heat + LG VRF Heat Pumps
Scope of Work: ABS designed this townhouse for the principal architect, Jess Hinshaw,’s mother, incidentally right next door to Jess’ own townhouse. We’ve combined a number of townhouses over the years but this was the first with a shared backyard between a multi-generational living arrangement. The project entailed providing a new VRF heat pump system and replacing existing hot water radiators. An innovative mico ‘combined heat, power, and cooling’ generation unit by M-trigen was installed as part of a National Grid pilot study designed to test, evaluate, and determine if this equipment is suitable in the ‘downstate NY gas service territories.’ Ultimately the Trigen unit proved to be too loud for densely populated Bed-Stuy, but it is very cool technology.
